The stock market hit another all-time high in late September, raising the age-old question: Is this a bad time to invest?

If youโ€™re new to saving and investing the idea of putting your money into the market just as it reaches a peak will feel scary. Surely it would be more logical to wait until the market goes down and buy the dip?

You can see from this chart of the S&P 500 over the last 20 years that, intuitively, even if you invest at a market peak you will still come out ahead if you are patient.
